When I tell people about the laws of health, I see that they have a genuine interest in the subject and listen to me attentively. But when I reach the eighth law, for some reason certain people begin to grow nervous and call me a cult member, trying to change the subject or end the conversation. Those who are bolder ask, ‘What does God have to do with it? What does He have to do with my health?’
Unfortunately, for many people God has become some kind of entity that is supposed to remain somewhere inside a special church and never go beyond its walls. Some are surprised that God has anything to do with human health. There are also those who believe that they are the product of some accident that led the world through evolution and eventually produced extraordinarily complex organisms that suddenly decided to acquire intelligence and become thinking human beings with a full range of feelings and emotions.
Even a simple listing of the qualities of the human soul and the amazingly thoughtful design of the human being tell us that such a creature cannot be the product of chance.
For example, if I took any book and claimed that it had been written by accident by a monkey allowed to play with a typewriter, I think you would consider me strange. And if I said that the book had appeared as the result of an explosion at a printing house, you would tap your temple and let me know that something was wrong with my head. Yet when people are told that God is the Creator and Designer of our world and of us, they do not want to listen. And it is the Almighty Who rules this world, establishing His laws, which apply to everyone.
The eighth law of health: Trust in God.
My health directly depends on how faithfully I obey all the laws of health and practice them in my life. When I violate or neglect one of these principles, my body begins to signal that something is wrong. And if I do not listen to its voice, my body offers me an exciting journey into the land of ailments and diseases.
To say that illness comes by chance because it is simply part of human existence is to suppose that we are playing a health lottery, with lucky winners who just happen to be fortunate and losers who can safely be thrown on the scrap heap. Unfortunately, such ignorance is very popular in our world, and many say, ‘Let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we shall die.’ Isaiah 22:13.
The Bible calls people who reject God fools. We read this in Psalms 14 and 53.
There is only one Book in the world that begins with the words, ‘In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.’
God exists, and He is alive. He does what He considers right and necessary. All physical and spiritual laws are in His hand and operate in the same way for everyone. And the Lord watches over everything in our world so that it proceeds within the bounds of His laws.
Trust in God is not blind faith in something; it is a relationship with a creative, personal Being. Such a relationship forms within me a correct understanding of who I am, where this world came from, what awaits us in the future, how to live, and what to do in the present. Every question ultimately leads to the answer that the Lord knows what is happening and that He directs all the processes of this diverse world and everything that takes place in my life.
When I begin to believe in Jesus as my Savior from the power of sin, I long to know God more closely, and I find a detailed account of Him in the Bible.
As I read this Book, I find many warnings that those who violate God’s law will face sickness, fear, and suffering. Such a prospect is not very inspiring, but this is precisely what the Bible teaches: illness is not accidental; it follows cause and effect.
Although illness is a curse of our time, for many people it becomes a blessing because it brings them to their senses and makes them consider why they became sick. They begin to seek God and find Him.
Trust in God does not come at once, but grows as a person learns His will and His character. A person learns something new about the Lord, tests His promises, tries asking Him for something and receives an answer, begins telling Him what is on the heart and receives comfort. Through knowledge and experience in this relationship, a person entrusts life into God’s hands and, through baptism by immersion, enters into a covenant of personal relationship with God, becoming a full member of God’s family. And the Lord calls everyone who seeks and accepts Him. Hope enters my life. I do not merely believe that God exists; I entrust Him with all my secrets and all my cares. I seek His counsel and ask Him for many things. A close friendship grows between us, and I entrust my life into God’s hands, knowing that this is the very best place for my soul.
For my part, I do everything possible to learn more about my Heavenly Friend, study His law, and understand with both mind and heart what I should do and what I should avoid. And when I see that my strength is not sufficient for me to obey in everything, the Lord gives me His grace and writes His law upon my heart.
When the laws of health are written somewhere outside me, on my phone or on paper, they simply give me useful information and show me a better way to live. But when they are inscribed upon my heart by the hand of God, they become a motivating power within me, and I live by them because I want to and believe it is right. And the Lord adds His hand to my efforts and blesses me where others fail.
Consider our planet. Are there miracles on it? The logic of this world denies miracles, but I believe in them and ask for one in every prayer. For example, do I understand the composition of everything around me? The air I breathe is invisible to me, and I do not know how many dangerous substances it contains, yet I consider it fresh, and God blesses and protects me. The water I drink may contain poisons harmful to my body, but in faith I consider it clean and drink it, and God preserves me. I do not know where the food on my table came from or whether it was properly grown and watered. It may contain something very harmful, yet I pray and eat it with thanksgiving, believing that everything is under God’s control, and I receive strength. Frail or addicted parents give birth to healthy children; terminally ill people are healed in answer to a simple prayer; evil people become kind and gentle as they listen to accounts of God’s love. My very life is a miracle, and the Author of all these miracles is my Savior, through Whom this world came into being.
And how can I explain the love that surpasses all understanding and is given to me for victory and a joyful life? Such a thing should be impossible, yet it exists.
My life itself is a miracle, my life with God is a miracle of miracles, and Jesus is the most wonderful Friend.
Trust in God gives me a right to Eternity, which is governed by eternal laws, and this right makes all the other laws of health my eternal principles. If God preserves me here from the evil and dangers that surround me, then in Eternity everything will be pure, and health will become the everlasting reward of my trust in God.
And God is the Author of my health, its Engineer and its Restorer, and He has designed every detail.
Do you feel warm living with such a material? Do you feel comfortable and at home in good health?
